On Saturday at UFC 273, Alexander Volkanovski will have another opportunity to add to his impressive resume and state his case as the greatest featherweight of all time when he puts his title on the ling against Chan Sung Jung in the main event.
The fighter considered the 145-pound GOAT has undergone some changes in recent years. For a long time, it was Jose Aldo until Max Holloway came along and beat him twice to pass Aldo, despite his nine title defenses (including WEC), in the eyes of many folks. Then Holloway defended three times until Volkanovski dethroned him and won a rematch.
Volkanovski is a huge favorite (-800 as of this writing, according to Tipico Sportsbook), and a win over “The Korean Zombie” would match Holloway’s title defenses at three. Keep in mind that Volkanovski also owns a win over Jose Aldo from 2019. He’s on a remarkable 20-fight overall winning streak, which is nothing to scoff at. And he’s 10-0 in the UFC, also nothing to scoff at.
So, if Volkanovski wins at UFC 273, where does that put him in the conversation as the featherweight GOAT. That’s what we asked our “Spinning Back Clique” panel of Mike Bohn, Matthew Wells, and Brian “Goze” Garcia, who discussed the topic with host “Gorgeous” George Garcia.
