UFC 279’s main card was in peril due to an unsuccessful weight cut, but the event’s main card has since been reshuffled and a new official roster has been released.
UFC 279’s main event has been changed to a five-round bout between Nate Diaz and fellow OG icon Tony Ferguson. Fans have been begging for this meeting, and it seemed unlikely that it would ever happen. To see the odds, just click here.
The co-main event features Khamzat Chimaev squaring off against Kevin Holland in a five-round bout. They cancelled the UFC 279 news conferences because of their extracurricular activities, which makes this battle all the more exciting. Chimaev weighed in at 178.5, making him too big for welterweight competition but well suited for a catchweight bout with Holland, who weighed in at 179.5 in preparation for a fight against Daniel Rodriguez.
Without a contract between the matchmakers, Jingliang Li and Daniel Rodriguez wouldn’t have been pitted against one other in the main event. Despite being almost 10 pounds overweight and underweight, respectively, for their individual bouts, these two guys love to bang it out and this could end up being quite the drama.
