After coming so close to defeating Israel Adesanya in their middleweight title rematch at UFC 271, Robert Whittaker is convinced that he and Adesanya are destined to meet again.
Former champion Robert Whittaker wants another shot at Israel Adesanya’s middleweight belt after sweeping his division and coming back from his most recent loss to Adesanya with a dominant performance against Marvin Vettori at UFC Paris.
After losing the first bout by knockout and the second fight by split decision despite outlanding the champion in significant strikes to the head (38-36), Whittaker is eager for a third title fight with Adesanya.
“I know that I have one more shot against Izzy if that’s what it is or if he gets dethroned I definitely have another shot at gold,” Whittaker said.
“I think getting that third fight with Israel will be a deciding point for that or whoever else it is.”
“Definitely [there will be a third fight with Adesanya,]” he continued.
“It would be silly not to because I’m just running through everybody else. Especially the way the second fight left off, I’d have to have come the closest since he’s gotten the title to taking it back off him.”
