LAS VEGAS – After picking up his second straight win at UFC on ESPN 35, Gabe Green wants to rematch an old foe.
Green (11-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) came from behind to finish Yohan Lainesse this past Saturday at the UFC Apex and hopes to get the opportunity to avenge a loss from his promotional debut.
In May 2020, Green faced Daniel Rodriguez in a short-notice fight in which he found some success on the feet, but ultimately was outstruck over the course of three rounds.
“I would love to run it back with ‘D-Rod’ any time of the week,” Green told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a post-fight news conference. “So if ‘D-Rod’ wants it – I fought him on four days’ notice, two years off the couch, no training. I’m in the gym every day now. I think it’s a totally different fight. I’d take that all the time. Whenever, tomorrow, let’s get it.
“More than anything, I just want to kind of ‘GSP’ it and avenge my losses. One hundred percent, he’s a great fighter. I just don’t think he’s better than me. He was better than me that night, but I don’t think he’s better than me and I want to prove to the world. I get a lot of sh*t about how many times he hit me that fight, and I mean, he did. He outstruck me like a mother. But I had a little worse eyes back then and I was also pretty damn rusty, so I think I take him out now. I don’t think it goes past three rounds.”
